Around the World on Wednesday – Sketch Challenge 107

Today we go Around the World on Wednesday with Sketch Challenge 107. We love a Sketch Challenge for they’re a great starting point for a card design. I decided to use the Winterly Tree Tops Suite of products for my card.

Here is the sketch we were all given to work with. Some wonderful layers and shapes to work with.

Working ironically with scraps left on my desk, I could see immediately that I had something that resembled this layout.

Matting the cardbase with the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper, I had a beautiful backdrop for my bird. A strip of DSP that looks like wood bark, was the perfect layer to allow my bird to sing. From here, I chose coordinating papers as a band across the card and decided to bring a lift of colour in. The pop of Poppy Parade tied in nicely with the winter berries.

To soften the look, I stamped my images onto Basic Beige cardstock using Black Memento ink. From here, I used Stampin’ Blends to colour my bird and leaves from the Winterly Tree Tops Stamp Set.

Colouring the Bird

The bird was coloured using Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie and had his chest coloured using Poppy Parade and Cherry Cobbler. Adding a touch of Cherry Cobbler to each berry helped give the illusion of shading.

Once die cut, the foliage was assembled into a partial wreath to resemble the circle within the sketch.

The Cherry Cobbler & Pearl Adhesive Berries were added as an embellishment and helped give a subtle glaze to a few berries.
