The Artisan Design Team Road Trip is here to bring some curbside chronicles from our neighbourhoods.
With a whole new Artisan Design Team, it’s exciting to get to know everyone and learn about where they live. We thought it would be fun to share a little about where we come from, in a creative way as part of a special Instagram Hop.
Join me on my Road Trip
I originate from the Coastal City of Brighton here in the UK but moved further north to Cambridgeshire when I got married back in 2009. This is where I now live with my husband and thirteen year old son.
Spaldwick – Where I live
We live in a quiet little village called Spaldwick with its 21 listed buildings, Spaldwick is a protected Conservation Area. Currently, there are about 250 households in Spaldwick, a Church, a small primary school a pub and a fuelling station.
Why The Crafty oINK Pen?
Our home was built on the land of a former pig farm, which is where I took inspiration from, for my business name.
See the black domed Pig Sheds to the right, that is roughly where the drive to our house now is. The cluster of trees top left, is where my Summerhouse is situated. Spaldwick has a wonderful village community, it’s a fabulous place to raise children, which is why we’ve settled here. Aside from this, we are surrounded by arable fields and sit just 3 miles from the village of Kimbolton.
Steeped in history, Kimbolton Castle is a country house that is now a Private School. It was the final home of King Henry VIII’s first wife, Catherine of Aragon who died there in 1536.
Some 20 mins drive from Kimbolton and Spaldwick is the heart of Cambridge itself. Sitting approximately an hour north of our Capital, London, Cambridge is a well known place for Universities. It’s known for the infamous Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race and for the endless collages and universities there.
King Henry VIII founded Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1546 as one of the very last acts of his life. Trinity College is where King Charles III attended. Charles started at Trinity College in 1967, studying archaeology and anthropology in his first year and then history for two years, graduating with a 2.2. In the 1980’s King Charles, then the Prince of Wales, became a founder Trustee of the Cambridge Trust. This Trust was established in the 80’s with the specific objective of providing scholarships to students from around the world who lacked the means to fund their studies at Cambridge.
There is nothing nicer than taking guests to visit Cambridge for a spot of Punting. Just like being in Venice, the little gondolas are steered often by collage students eager to earn some extra cash. They’re a fountain of information and will tell you all about the various collages that you pass along the way.
My Creative Interpretation
My creative inspiration comes from the Universities of Cambridge, which is why I turned my hand to two stamp sets. Mixing Cap & Gown and Bird’s Eye View was the perfect pairing for this card. The rich warm colours helped represent the regal richness of the area and the studious birds, the students studying for their College Degrees.
Using Black Memento Ink, the birds, books and caps were each stamped upon white cardstock before colouring. Stampin’ Blends were use to colour these images with bright, rich colours purposely chosen. The dark Pretty Peacock cardbase helped off set the brighter foreground that was sat upon a piece of Gorgeously Eclectic Designer Series Paper.
The Gorgeously Made Die was used to edge this Designer Series Paper to represent the students many sheets of note taking.
I hope you have enjoyed your trip around the globe to my neighbourhood and enjoyed the little that I’ve shared about this wonderful place. Be sure to head over to Instagram to see the rest of the Hop and find out where some of the other Artisan’s live.
