You’ll often find me travelling with my Watercolour Pencils. A great travel companion it’s easy to carry pre stamped images to colour. I did exactly this with the Kindest Gnomes on a recent family holiday.
Stamping the images all onto white cardstock with Black Memento Ink, I sat in the sun by the pool colouring whilst listening to an audiobook. I’d prefer to listen to a book so that I can multitask like this than read a physical book.
Watercolour Pencils
Stampin’ Up! Watercolour pencils are super soft and I absolutely love them. There are two different packs offering colours that coordinate with our colour families. Sadly there isn’t one to match every colour but plenty enough for some enjoyment.
Personally, I like to use these pencils dry but you can use a Blender Pen or a Water Painter with them to smooth out the colours further. Colouring all of the images whilst away allowed me to bring them home, Die cut them in readiness to assemble into cards.
I took the colour palette for my card bases from my coloured gnomes. My first card homed in on the Cajun Craze hat. The Street Lamp from the Hostess set, Carolling Mice, teamed beautifully with this lantern carrying Gnome. Stamping this image onto a Night of Navy panel with Black Memento, I proceeded to colour in the image with a white pencil. Laying down a white layer, allows the colours added to stand out better. Some splattering of white ink for faux snow and my focal point was ready to mount.
Detail was added with the use of Blending and Embossing with the Fern 3D Embossing Folder.
Sticking to the same colour palette, I sponged up a moody matting layer to form a highlighted area. Elevating my watercolored images on Dimensionals, I added them above a loop of Garden Green Ribbon.
My final card revolved around the Wreath from Natural Prints Dies. Crumb Cake was introduced to coordinate with the Gnomes beards.
I enjoyed creating this Trio of cards and I hope you like the moody feel that I have created with them.
