These cards came from a recent class that I held using the Jar of Flowers Stamp Set. I decided to focus on colouring for this class, using Blends Pens and Watercolouring.
Alcohol Blends Pens
This first card focused on using the Alcohol Blends Pens. To use Alcohol Pens you first need to stamp using a Water Based Ink. Stamping in Black Memento, I then selected Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Highland Heather to colour in my flowers.
So Saffron ink was used to stamp the flowers randomly to the card base, which helped add subtle interest.
These next two cards used Watercolour Paper and an Aqua Painter. By Stamping the image with Versamark ink and heat embossing white, I was able to add water that would keep within the lines. Emboss Resist, is where the embossing literally resists the watercolour that you’re adding.
Selecting water based inks in the same colours as the blends pens, I used the ink pad lids as palettes to take ink from. Adding a little at a time, I was able to build the colours and the shadows for each area of the image. I pulled in a little Soft Succulent to tie in with my ribbon choice. The base card was a soft Fresh Freesia colour.
Stamping and fussy cutting two additional flowers, allowed me to elevate them onto the edge of the sentiment panel.
My final card brought in the Timber 3D Embossing Folder, that I used to create a faux table top. Punching the shape of the Jar to create an aperture, I proceeded to stamp and heat emboss the flower image just above. By stamping the jar image onto a sheet of Vellum, allowed me to add this behind the aperture to simulate glass. A gentle wash of Blue ink was added as water and the flower stems stamped and coloured with watercolour ink.
Vibrant yellow sunflowers with soft suede centres were watercolored and it was with this flower that you really could see the emboss resist technique work.
All the sentiments used came from the Happiness Abounds Stamp Set.
A pretty trio of cards showcasing the watercolouring technique and emboss resist.
I hope you have enjoyed my share with you today and that perhaps you’ll give this technique a try.
