It’s an Manly May this month with the Stampin’ Fancy Friday Challenge.
This month the Stampin’ Fancy Friday Team are sharing their inspiration of a manly nature. With my husband’s Big Birthday having been in April, I had designed this card for him, well in advance.
The little boy of 8 years old who’d dream of flying in a Spitfire had finally turned 60. Many trips to the Biggin Hill Airshows made this a very real dream … which was about to come true.

Life is indeed one beautiful journey so the sentiments seemed totally fitting for this card. Sadly now retired, the Beautiful World stamp set, helped create this collage. My colour choice was quite specific to blend with the literature that had been emailed through. I had paid for him to fulfil his life long dream.
Teaming Basic Grey with Watercolor Paper I was able to create this watercolor sky using Balmy Blue ink. Adding Ink to a sheet of acetate and spritzing it with water, helped to create this airy feel, which I added to further. By stamping over the sky with the script from Very Versailles in Misty Moonlight, I was able to add further interest to this otherwise large area.
Adding a band of vellum, helped to highlight the sentiment further, which I added over the Playful Alphabet Die cut numbers. A subtle way of adding 60.

Taking to the sky
The literature about the flight was emailed through in PDF format which I used to create this little Gift Voucher. I added embellishments to the corners to create that vintage feel and added a simple handmade tassel in Basic Grey. All of these details I felt were all quite manly and not pretty pretty. The sentiment that I added … said it all.
This was him both in the air and on the ground, thoroughly overwhelmed at having fulfilled his dream. Yes, that photo of him airborne was taken by me flying alongside him in the Harvard. They needed a passenger for that flight, so he turned the table on me and sent me up too. What better way to see him fulfil that dream than flying alongside him and what lasting memories we both have. He was sat in the back but he did get a chance to actually fly it on route back to the airfield. He was in his element!

Despite the fact that this stamp set has now retired, I hope you can see how a collage of images can help create a masculine vibe.
