This month the Stampin’ Fancy Friday Team have set us a Sketch Challenge, which is always a great starting point. Loving a sketch challenge, I couldn’t wait to get to work on this one.
This was the sketch given to us as a starting point. I couldn’t wait to get designing and see what the others would create too.
A series of layers and basic shapes, I decided to give the Floating Technique a try. This technique was popular last year and was one I’d not had a chance to try.
Using the All Things Fabulous stamp set from the new Annual catalogue and some fresh colours I set to work.
The Floating Technique
The floating technique is where you lay out die-cut stamped images and then die cut a shape from them. The All Things Fabulous set lends itself to two and three step stamping. I stamped and cut a series of flowers and lay them across a panel of white card. Purchased on the High Street in some countries or through Amazon, Press and Seal is a sticky food wrap. Lay Press and Seal over the panel of white card and scattered flowers to keep the images in place, as you die cut your shape. With a Circle being the main focal point of this sketch challenge, I chose a stitched circle shape.
Made for my Mum’s Birthday, I turned to Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather since she likes lilac tones. Mint Macaron was a great soft green to use for the leaves.
Placing the fresh lemon coloured flower as a focal point within this circle, drew my eye in further and helped balance the lavender shades used.
Once you’ve die cut your shape, you place Dimensionals on the reverse of each remaining piece before sticking to your card front. At this point, you can carefully peel off the Press and Seal, leaving the floating images.
The sentiment was Heat Embossed white on a strip of Highland Heather and had a strip of Designer Series Paper behind.
I really enjoyed creating this, the techniques and the finished card.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my card and learning about the Floating Technique. Enjoy and see you next month.
