Welcome to the Home Decor SU Style Blog Hop where once again we share Home Decor Projects with you. This month I share with you a project that I recently created with my ladies at class. I’d been asked for a framed piece using the Climbing Orchid that I’ll share with you today.
I was going to use a shop bought picture frame, but decided that I’d teach my ladies how to create a frame of their own. This frame can be recreated in many different sizes and shapes, is lightweight for posting and very beautiful. Gray Granite, which is a beautiful stone like colour, is a new colour that I used to create the background and frame from. I thought this neutral enough to blend with most people’s home decor and to carry off most flower colours.
Undecided upon which colour to make my orchids in, I kept returning to plain and simple white. If you study a few orchids, you’ll see that there is a gentle hint of green, which is why I added some Lemon Lime Twist. My ladies had a choice of stamping their flowers in a range of a colours, from Melon Mambo to Rich Razzleberry and two styles of veins.
You can see here how I’ve stamped the lined image using Versamark and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder to add some detail. Lemon Lime Twist was again used on the little buds. It was the centre of the flowers which had me pondering colours the most.
The branches were actually from the Seasonal Layers Dies and not this set at all, but it works so well. The stamp set itself has a image of a branch, but I wanted something more 3 dimensional.
Adding that final hint of colour with some ribbon at the top to hang the piece from and I was done. A simple, lightweight frame all made from card stock and all quite unique. I had used just two sheets of A4 Card stock to create this project, which is a great saving on shop purchased frames.
Now what colour will your Orchids be?
Now hop on over and take a look at what the others have in store for you this month. I’m sure you’ll find an abundance of inspiration from them all.
Happy Hopping and thanks for coming by today.

Gorgeous and classy frame, Mikaela. I also used the orchid bundle (great minds think alike?? 🙂 ) and funny enough we’re right behind each other in this hop.
Thank you so much Danielle, I’m just playing catch up on hop comments after a crazy mad busy summer. Yes, I did see and I need to go back and take a better look. Great minds think alike for sure xx
SIMPLY STUNNING FRAMED ART. I LOVE THE CONTRAST BETWEEN THE GRAY granite AND THE WHITE ORCHIDS AND THE EMBOSSING PASTE ADDS WONDERFUL TEXTURE TO THE BACKGROUND.
This is fabulous Mikaela! I think I’m going to have to give it a go!!
