Last weekend saw my annual Summer Stamp-a-Stack Event at Kettering Park Hotel & Spa, where I bolted on the Birthday Wishes Event Challenge, in aid of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Our son was born some 10 weeks premature and spent the first 6 weeks of his life in a special care baby unit. We travelled in and out to the hospital on a daily basis visiting until week 5. We didn’t stay in a Ronald McDonald House, but spent a week in a bed sit on site at the hospital and totally understand the need for houses like the Ronald McDonald Houses to offer families like us, in their time of need.
The houses are located around the country and give a home from home environment close by to key specialised hospitals, to help families stay close, allowing siblings to remain part of the family unit too. If you’d like to read more of what they do, then you can read more about them over at the Ronald McDonald House Charities website www.rmhc.org.uk. Life still goes on, family birthdays still take place, but probably the last thing on your mind at that time is heading out to buy or make a card. That’s where the girls and I helped to make a difference last weekend.
I had announced to my ladies who’d booked onto my Stamp-a-Stack event, that I had set out to create no less than 500 cards to donate to this worthwhile cause and simply asked for their support and encouragement … and perhaps a spot of assembly at the end of their day if they so wished.
With just four card designs to help give inspiration and a stack of Stamp sets, limited inks and embellishments and the help of initially just one additional person, Fiona, to help facilitate the day, so not to neglect my ladies, we set to work.
We had so much fun! We checked into my Facebook business page to give live updates to our followers to gain support and encouragement from them to keep us going. We completed 340 cards on the day, with me finishing off the remaining 160 the next morning. I was delighted with the progress, effort and support by everyone and can’t thank everyone enough for helping generate this wonderful number of cards for donation.
Here are just a few of the cards we made on the day using the Sharing Sweet Thoughts Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up! that gives a £2 donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities with every purchase of it made.
Isn’t this card just so cute?! I love how it coordinates with the Jar of Love Framelits. Those little LadyBirds just kept appearing all over the place. I loved them. So cheerful.
Simple little cards, with many others being a little more time consuming and involved, but these where the few designs that got us started and were made on mass. I’ll share a few more with you over the coming few days.
I’m waiting to hear news of just how many cards accumulatively that we as UK Demonstrators made last weekend. We should receive news tomorrow.
If you would like to get involved in a Christmas Card Challenge of this type later in the year, then be sure to get in contact with me. I’d love for you to join me.
